lululemon and the Copenhagen house GANNI announced a collaboration on October 8, and it goes on sale October 15. According to lululemon's newsroom release, the collection has 22 pieces across women's, accessories and footwear, sold at lululemon.com and GANNI.com and in select stores of both brands across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. The release gives no prices.
The starting point is dance. GANNI creative director Ditte Reffstrup said in the release that "80s dance movies have been part of my life since I was a child, so they felt like such a natural starting point," and that the team brought that energy into the colours and details and mixed it with GANNI signatures like leopard and frills. lululemon's Global Creative Director Jonathan Cheung said that when the collection was first discussed, Reffstrup named dance as her movement practice, "and everything flowed from there."
What's in it
The release names lululemon's Nulu and Softstreme fabrics throughout, and the Define Jacket, a lululemon style, reinterpreted through GANNI's design. On the GANNI side it lists ruffle trims, bold colour pairings and leopard print, and it calls out dance-inspired silhouettes and accessories: leg warmers, boleros and headbands. The release doesn't itemize the footwear, and it doesn't say how many pieces come in each category.
The campaign
The pair launched a campaign called "JOY IS A POWER MOVE" with the announcement, featuring actor Jennifer Beals and singer and dancer METTE. According to the release, the short film was shot in a dance studio and plays on the line between rehearsal and performance.
