Loewe's Runway Animals by Cosima von Bonin Go On Show at the Petit Palais

The plush animals that sat beside Loewe's Fall/Winter 2026 runway have moved into a museum. Dollys & Beaux, an exhibition by Cosima von Bonin, is at the Petit Palais as part of Art Basel Paris's public program, and Loewe posted it on October 23: von Bonin's menagerie, "commissioned by Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for the LOEWE Fall Winter 2026 show", of leather octopuses, mohair whales and velvet St. Bernards. Admission is free.

Art Basel's own page on the show lists some of the pieces: Beau 9, a midnight-blue velvet St. Bernard with a wooden barrel at its neck; Beau 4, a killer whale in black-and-white mohair and leather; Beau 12, a blue velvet hermit crab coming out of its shell; and Purple Sloth Rabbit, a 2010 work from her Lazy Susan Series. designboom says a velvet St. Bernard sits among the classical figures in the museum's historic sculpture gallery, with a bulldog and a pair of scallops also in the show, and some animals in silk scarves and tartan. The show is presented by her galleries, Gaga, Galerie Neu and Petzel.

From the runway to the shop

The animals were made for Loewe first. designboom reports that McCollough and Hernandez, Loewe's creative directors, invited von Bonin to make sculptures for the house's Fall/Winter 2026 show at the Château de Vincennes, where they sat alongside the runway and her imagery turned up on clothes and accessories. Loewe's post says a selection of the season's bags and accessories is inspired by her visual language, and Art Basel's page says she worked on a version of the Amazona 180 bag. Separately, Loewe's post shows a Puzzle bag in angular panels of grey-and-white check and orange-on-purple tartan, and a silver chain bracelet that fastens with a pair of claws.

It's a direct line from art to product. Von Bonin, as Art Basel's page puts it, avoids press interviews and openings, even her own, and leaves her work open to interpretation; Loewe's version puts her tartans and animals on things it sells. For McCollough and Hernandez, a free museum show during Art Basel Paris puts a runway commission in front of people who never saw the runway, and the bags it inspired in front of the same crowd.

A short run, cut shorter

The dates depend on who you ask. Art Basel's page gives October 23 to 25; designboom and Sortir à Paris list it from October 20. Either way, the weekend didn't go to plan. Art Basel Paris shut its fair at the Grand Palais on Friday, two days early, ahead of protests in Paris. Sortir à Paris reports that the Petit Palais announced on Friday afternoon that it would close for all of Saturday, October 24, because of the day's demonstration, and that the closure covers Saturday only for now. Whether Dollys & Beaux reopens for its last day on Sunday is down to the museum; check its site before going.
