Saint Laurent has confirmed that Anthony Vaccarello is leaving the house after ten years as creative director. Kering, its owner, said so on Friday, October 9, according to Reuters, and the release from Saint Laurent, carried by FinanzWire, says details of the new creative leadership will be shared soon. No successor has been named.
Vaccarello was appointed in 2016 to succeed Hedi Slimane, per Reuters. The release says Kering CEO Luca de Meo and Saint Laurent CEO Cédric Charbit thanked him for his decade at the house; the wording we could read paraphrases them, so we're not quoting it. The Impression reports that his Spring 2027 collection, shown in Paris on September 29, was his last for the house. That show, which we covered as a gold-on-gold goodbye, had already set off reports that he was on his way out.
The numbers behind it
Reuters puts Saint Laurent's sales above €3 billion in 2023, before an industry-wide slowdown. Its gross revenues fell 9% in 2024 and 6% in 2025, and Kering says they have largely stabilized this year. The group around it is in the middle of a reset: Reuters says de Meo is overhauling Kering after years of decline, its shares are down 31% this year, and third-quarter sales are due October 22.
Reuters also points out that Saint Laurent is the last major Kering brand to change creative director, after changes at Gucci, Balenciaga and Bottega Veneta last year. That makes this a group story as much as a house story.
Who's next
Nobody has said. Reuters writes that industry speculation points to Chemena Kamali, who is creative director at Chloé and used to be womenswear design director at Saint Laurent. That is speculation and nothing more: neither Kering nor Saint Laurent has named anyone, and we'll update this story when they do.
