The BAPE x Comme des Garçons Collection Is Real — and It's One Store in Osaka

The BAPE and Comme des Garçons collection making the rounds this week is real, and BAPE has had the full lineup on its own news page since September 16. What's been getting lost in the reposts is where you can actually buy it: one store, in Osaka, starting Wednesday, September 23, in limited quantities.

That store is BAPE STORE® COMME des GARÇONS OSAKA — the BAPE shop that operates inside Comme des Garçons Osaka. It's why the pieces are labelled CDG OSAKA X BAPE® rather than as a global collab, and why there's no worldwide release date attached to any of this. BAPE ran a web lottery for the first hour of release day, 11am to noon; applications closed at noon on September 18. Everyone else queues from noon on the 23rd. Reservations open October 1, and mail order — the only realistic route if you're not in Japan — starts November 1.

The collection itself is built on one idea: a house check. BAPE calls it BAPE® CHECK, a Black Watch-derived green and navy tartan it runs across nearly every piece, styled around 1960s British mod dress with a buffalo-style mix of trad, street, sports and military references. It's a sharper reference point than BAPE usually reaches for, and the tartan does most of the work.

Three tees anchor the range at ¥16,500 each in white and black: a TARGET TEE ringing the COMME des GARÇONS logo around an ape head, a LOGO TEE stacking both brand names vertically, and a TEE pairing three check-filled ape heads with the CDG logo. Above them sit crewneck sweatshirts in black and grey at ¥33,000, with the check tucked inside the collar and an upside-down A BATHING APE® logo on the chest; pullover hoodies and sweatpants at ¥33,000 to ¥44,000, in all-over check or black; and a flannel shirt at ¥38,500 with embroidered ape heads front and back and bias-cut patchwork panels. The bomber jacket tops the range at ¥77,000 — black nylon twill, printed logos front and back, check lining and side panels. Accessories are a check-lined 2WAY canvas tote at ¥25,300, plus a bandana and pin set at ¥6,600 each.

Prices are Japanese retail, in yen, tax included, and that's the whole catalogue — 17 pieces across colourways, no drip-feed, no second wave announced. For a collaboration between two brands this recognisable, keeping it to one store is the interesting decision. It's also the one that guarantees resale prices before most people outside Japan get a look, which makes November 1 the date worth putting in your phone rather than the 23rd.
