Carhartt WIP and Nike Sell a Santa Fe Jacket Only at Sydney's SURPLUS Festival

Carhartt WIP is selling a collection made with Nike Sportswear at SURPLUS, the Sydney festival the two present with SUPPLY, and nowhere else. According to Carhartt WIP's newsroom, it goes on sale on Saturday, October 17, from 10am Sydney time at the SURPLUS Marketplace, and it "will not be released online."

What's in it

A limited-edition souvenir Santa Fe Jacket leads the range. Carhartt WIP describes a heavyweight Dearborn Canvas body and collar, faux-leather sleeves and a quilted nylon lining, finished with Carhartt WIP x Nike Sportswear x SURPLUS branding. The product shot shows it in black, with a Nike swoosh and SURPLUS lettering across the back, both in black on black.

Around it sit a Zip Hooded Sweater and Fleece Shorts in cotton French terry, and long- and short-sleeve T-shirts in 100% cotton, all with co-branded graphics. Carhartt WIP says the graphics take each partner's signature colour, Hamilton Brown for itself, orange for Nike Sportswear and SUPPLY Blue for SURPLUS, and that an Urban Camo motif ties the range together. The lookbook shows the camo in grey and white, on a hoodie and a tee with an orange swoosh.

The festival

SURPLUS runs October 16 to 18 across 15 venues in Darlinghurst, with more than 180 artists, musicians, designers and brands, per Carhartt WIP's release. This is Carhartt WIP's second year there, and it hosted an event on October 16 with the band Suzy Sheer performing at Oxford Art Factory.

Carhartt WIP frames the range as an elevated take on festival merchandise, and the choice of a canvas-and-faux-leather jacket over a souvenir tee as the lead piece fits that. The no-online rule is the bigger decision: the only way to buy is to be at the marketplace on Saturday morning, which keeps the collection tied to the event. Carhartt WIP has not published prices or quantities, so how much the jacket costs and how many exist are still unknown.
