Comme des Garçons has brought back Six. On Thursday, October 15, the label posted a window and pillar installation by Rei Kawakubo at Dover Street Market London, built from the pages of the magazine it published from 1988 to 1991, and Dover Street Market's e-shop put eight Six Magazine T-shirts on sale at £95 each, adding four more on Friday, twelve so far.

Comme des Garçons explains the name in its post and on the window. The five senses, "to see, to hear to taste, to smell and to touch", are the realistic ones; the sixth "cannot be realistically expressed", and Six means the sixth sense. Under the dates 2026 to 2027, its post adds two words: "New again."

What Six was

Six came out twice a year, timed to the collections, and ran to eight issues. It was oversized and nearly wordless, images with only a few bits of writing, art-directed by Tsuguya Inoue and edited by Atsuko Kozasu; Kinfolk lists Bruce Weber, Kishin Shinoyama and Gilbert & George among its contributors. It was never a newsstand title: a dealer selling a complete set on 1stDibs says copies went only to a select number of clients and fashion editors, and the issues are collectors' items now.

The windows and the tees

In London, that archive now covers the street-level windows and wraps the pillars on the shop floor in collaged black-and-white photographs, with Six COMME des GARÇONS printed across them. The T-shirts, under Comme des Garçons' Trading Museum label, are white, 100% cotton and made in Japan, each with a graphic from the magazine on the front; Dover Street Market names them for their prints, among them fish, flowers, fruits, a nest, an acorn, a vessel, a sculpture, checks and a metal 6.

The read

This is Kawakubo going back to the part of Comme des Garçons that was never for sale. Six was an image of the brand handed to a few insiders; a £95 T-shirt hands a piece of it to anyone with Dover Street Market's e-shop open. It sits easily next to her Spring 2027 show in Paris this month, but it's a different instinct: less a new idea than proof that her old ones still hold up as graphics.

"2026 to 2027" suggests Six runs for more than one season, but Comme des Garçons hasn't said whether it travels to other Dover Street Market stores or what comes next.
