For Gap Hoodie Day, Gap handed its best-known logo to five outsiders. Five limited-edition versions of its heavyweight arch logo hoodie went live on gap.com on Thursday, October 15, each redrawn by a different designer: Come Tees from Los Angeles, Edward Crutchley from London, AO YES from Shanghai, Henry's Pizza from Osaka and Eduardo Sarabia from Mexico City. Each one is $118.

Gap's own pitch is short: it brought together emerging designers from around the world to reimagine "our iconic logo hoodie" and make it new again. The base is the same on all five, a soft heavyweight cotton-blend fleece in a relaxed fit with a drawcord hood, a kanga pocket and banded hem and cuffs. What changes is the logo, and on most of them, the sleeves.

The five

Come Tees fills the arch letters with leopard print on a black hoodie and runs white hand-lettering down both sleeves.

Edward Crutchley turns it into a collegiate crest on red: a bear on one side, an eagle on the other, a knight's helmet on top, and "Condita Sancti Francisci – MCMLXIX" underneath, a nod to Gap's founding in San Francisco in 1969. MCMLXIX runs down one sleeve too, and there's a crest label on the pocket.

AO YES sets red GAP letters in a cluster of pink embroidered flowers on navy. Henry's Pizza, the New York-style pizza shop the Japanese graphic artist Verdy started in Osaka in 2023, does the letters as pizza, yellow with red pepperoni and green outlines, over its own "Henry's" script and a slice, on a white hoodie. Eduardo Sarabia draws a pale-blue GAP with flourishes and a banner bearing his name, again on navy, with more of his drawing on the sleeve.

The read

Gap calls the logo hoodie iconic itself, and here it treats it as a canvas rather than a basic. The picks are the interesting part: five names from five cities on three continents, none of them a famous estate, with a pizza shop among them, and the best-known name in the set, Verdy, coming in through his restaurant rather than under his own name. It's the same instinct behind its fall collaboration with A.P.C.: borrow other people's taste and keep the Gap name in the middle of it.

What Gap hasn't said is how many of each it made. "Limited edition" is the only guidance, so if one of the five is the one you want, don't count on a restock.
