Jordan Brand announced its Space Jam 30th anniversary collection on October 8, and the clothes are the part worth a look. The line goes on sale November 5 at jordan.com and select retailers, and Nike's collection page already lists 16 apparel and accessory pieces with prices, all marked Coming Soon.
The anchor is a varsity jacket: relaxed Jordan fit, faux-wool body, retro patches, trading-card-inspired graphics, a galaxy lining Jordan says is influenced by the Monstars and an interior label nodding to "secret stuff." It isn't on the collection page yet, so it has no price. Next to it, a Lola Bunny long-sleeve jersey reworks the high-shine fabrics of late-'90s and early-2000s basketball uniforms, with a 23 and a Lola Bunny graphic on the back.
What it costs
The priced pieces are mostly fleece and headwear. The men's Jordan Brooklyn Space Jam fleece pullover hoodie and cuffed pants are $80 each, the Rise cap is $40 and the Brooklyn beanie $35. Women's runs from a $45 long-sleeve locket tee and a $70 Lola Bunny crewneck to an $80 jersey and a $120 Dri-FIT tunnel pant. Big Kids' pieces sit between $55 and $65, with a $30 beanie at the bottom of the range.
Jordan says the apparel was designed around Jordan-specific cuts, archival graphics and film references. Liv Bolung, a Jordan streetwear apparel designer, said the team reworked "period-inspired materials, graphics and silhouettes into pieces that feel current." The release also lists graphic tees, shorts and a basketball tank.
The campaign
The campaign is called Greatness Is Never Out of Reach, built on the film's stretch scene, and features Azzi Fudd, Aaron Judge, Rema and Teyana Taylor. Jordan is also releasing Space Jam: Beyond the Jam, a six-part YouTube mini-documentary that includes Michael Jordan. "Space Jam has always connected basketball, entertainment and culture in a way that transcends any one generation," Jordan Brand President Sarah Mensah said in the release.
The shoes, led by Air Jordan 11 releases, are a separate story and justfreshkicks.com's lane. The clothes are a different bet: a 1996 movie turned into $80 hoodies and a $120 pant, priced for people who wear the line without needing the sneakers.
