Two of Paris's biggest houses dressed Céline Dion this week, and both said so themselves. On the evening of October 14, Chanel posted that Dion had opened her final Paris shows of 2026 in a custom Chanel Haute Couture dress designed by Matthieu Blazy. The next morning Dior posted her in a custom gown by Jonathan Anderson, worn for her concert in Paris.
Chanel's dress is a callback. The house calls it an homage to the Chanel Spring Summer 1997 Haute Couture look Dion wore on the red carpet at the 69th Academy Awards, a silver gown designed in Karl Lagerfeld's time. The new one is strapless, with a sweetheart neckline and silver crystals at the top that run down into deep blue. She wore it with a Chanel High Jewellery necklace inspired by the one she had on in 1997, the COMÈTE, which Chanel describes as a 1932 design from Gabrielle Chanel's only High Jewellery collection.
How it was made
According to Chanel, the dress was made entirely by hand in its ateliers at 31 Rue Cambon, with embroidery by Atelier Montex, one of the Maisons d'art at le19M, and her black satin pumps came from Massaro, another of them. Vogue Adria puts numbers on it: 1,380 hours of work, 6,000 decorative stones and 5,000 beads, and a necklace in platinum and 18-carat white gold set with 1,080 diamonds, more than 67 carats in all.
Dior's look reaches further back. The house says Anderson's gown reinterprets the Cyclone dress from Christian Dior's Autumn-Winter 1948 collection. In Dior's photo it reads as a long, double-breasted black satin coat whose sides flare out from the hips into stiff, sculpted panels, over a short draped black dress, with a white flower at the waist.
The read
The run, at La Plenitude Arena just outside Paris, is 16 shows from September 12 to October 17, Dion's first concerts in more than six years, and the houses have treated it like a red carpet. For Chanel it's a strong showing of what Blazy's couture can do on a stage, nine days after his Spring 2027 show at the Grand Palais, and the 1997 reference ties his Chanel to Lagerfeld's. Dior posted the next day, with Anderson reworking a piece from the house's 1948 archive. Neither house says which night Dior's look was worn, and there are two shows left, October 16 and 17.
