adidas Dressed Messi's Last Argentina Game in Gold. The Jersey Is Already on Sale

adidas has put Lionel Messi's farewell on sale. The Argentina Messi Special Edition Collection, released September 25, is the kit Argentina will wear for Messi's last international appearance, and it's already at adidas stores, selected retailers and adidas.com. The match is a friendly against Benin on Tuesday, October 6, at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires: his 208th cap, per AFP, for the player who holds Argentina's record of 125 international goals. The AFA has set kickoff for 8pm Argentina time, 7pm ET.

The jersey reworks the flag. adidas describes a Sun of May spread across the front and back, the usual sky blue and white with gold running through the kit, and Messi's own signature logo where the adidas logo would sit. It also carries a sign-off made for the occasion: the number 10, framed by laurel branches. On adidas's product photos the crest, the numbers and the trim are gold, against a black collar and cuffs.

It comes in tiers, and the price follows the name on the back. In the US, the Argentina Messi 10 authentic jersey is $190 and sold only through the adidas app; the authentic jersey without his name is $160, the replica with MESSI 10 is $130, and the plain replica is $100 in men's and women's cuts, with a kids' version at $80. In the UK, where the authentic is £130 and the replica £85, the Messi 10 authentic already shows sold out.

adidas made more than a match kit. The collection also covers pre-match wear and what adidas calls a culture wear range: in the US, a Night Navy track top at $110 and matching track pants at $90, a tee at $55 and lifestyle shorts at $65.

The night itself is a public event in Buenos Aires beyond the stadium. The AFA is running a "Gracias, Leo" fan fest at the University of Buenos Aires' Ciudad Universitaria on October 6, from noon to midnight, with the match on big screens.

A jersey made for a single night is being sold as a whole wardrobe, and the tiers show who adidas is selling to: the $100 replica for the people who'll watch on October 6, and the $190 app-only authentic with MESSI 10 for the ones who'll keep it in a frame. With the UK's top jersey already gone a week before the game, the second group got there first.
