Saturdays NYC has made its first piece with Marmot, and it's a winter coat rather than a logo tee. JUN, the company that runs Saturdays NYC in Japan, announced the Marmot x Saturdays NYC Down Parka on October 30 and opened reservations the same day. It goes on sale on Friday, November 6, at ¥66,000 including tax, in sizes S to XL.

The starting point is Marmot's Dima Down Parka Pro, which JUN says was reworked from the silhouette up as a full special order. The details come from a vintage M-47 overcoat: a waist belt, the front pockets and the placket. Around them sit raglan sleeves, hand-warmer pockets, fleece ribbing inside the cuffs and an inside pocket. The shell is PERTEX SHIELD PRO, a waterproof, breathable fabric, filled with 750-fill-power down.

There are two colourways, and both show their contrast on the inside: charcoal with a burgundy lining, and beige with light blue. JUN says the charcoal shell isn't a colour in Marmot's own line, and that pairing a shell and lining in different colours was done only for Saturdays NYC. The branding is small: PERTEX and Saturdays NYC logos printed at the end of the sleeve, an embroidered Marmot logo and a slash-logo tag on the front patch pocket.

Where to buy it

It's a Japan-only release: Saturdays NYC Japan's own page calls it limited to Saturdays NYC in Japan, and pre-orders on its online store have already closed. The release lists Saturdays NYC's own stores in Daikanyama, NEWoMan Takanawa, Nagoya, Kobe, Osaka and Hankyu Umeda, plus the brand's official online store, saturdaysnyc.co.jp.

Our read

Saturdays NYC's Japanese arm runs collaborations at a steady clip; the menu on its site lists about two dozen partners, from Champion, Dickies and L.L.Bean to The Strokes and PEANUTS. This one is the most technical of them, borrowing a mountain brand's technical down parka and dressing it in army-surplus details. The charcoal shell, the colour Marmot doesn't make itself, is the version to watch if it sells out.
