Gucci closed out a heavy day of Milan Fashion Week on September 25 by turning its runway into a store. Creative director Demna staged the Spring/Summer 2027 show, titled "The Store Show," inside a full-scale built environment made to look like a Gucci boutique — marble walls, a bas-relief, a rail of clothes, shelves of accessories — with models walking through it as customers would, pausing at mirrors along the way. Gucci has described the set as a preview of how Demna's aesthetic could eventually shape its actual stores.
Demna sent press a letter ahead of the show calling it the first collection built entirely from his own read on the house, after a year spent studying what Gucci represents. "Gucci stands for being rooted in the desire to belong to a more glamorous world, and in the audacity to remake that world in your own image," he wrote — a house he separately described as "luxury that wants to be seen," carrying "eccentricity, danger or sex appeal" underneath a more bourgeois surface. He closed on the same idea, plainer: "Gucci is a space of possibility, a place where anyone can become whoever they choose to be."
The show ran men's first, 40 looks, then women's — Demna's choice, so neither line played as an afterthought to the other. Menswear leaned into hooded silhouettes, tartan-lined jackets and sharp-shouldered suits, cropped trousers that showed the ankle and triple-buckle belts, alongside a peacoat, a trenchcoat with miniature horseshoes on each collar end, an extra-oversize black overcoat and XL baby-blue shirting with enlarged shoulder pads.
Womenswear opened in the stables: a sleek three-button fitted jacket with a small silver horse bit on each lapel, worn over the tightest white breeches and riding boots. From there it moved into a more 1980s Milanese register — midriff-baring black suits, a black tuxedo dress with sharp, exaggerated shoulders, leather coats worn with a scarf or an oversized fur, kilts under enormous horseshoe belts, punk touches like chain neckwear, and evening pieces built around thigh slits and cutouts.
The show landed against a rougher business backdrop than the staging let on. Gucci's sales have kept falling under Kering ownership since Alessandro Michele's exit, and Demna's first two collections since arriving in 2025 — shown in February and May, both leaning on archive references — didn't reverse it, though the decline slowed in the second quarter of 2026. This is the collection Demna is explicitly not calling an archive study, which makes it the one Kering needs to actually sell, not just photograph well.
It also reframes his February debut, which read at the time as a cautious, reference-heavy opening move alongside similar debuts at Fendi, Marni and Balmain. Eight months and two collections later, Demna is drawing a line under that period himself — betting that a fully authored point of view, not another season of studying the archive, is what actually moves Gucci's numbers.
