Patta and BEAMS Make a Varsity Jacket for BEAMS's 50th, Out October 30

BEAMS has brought in Patta for its 50th anniversary. The Tokyo retailer announced on October 27 that a special collaboration with the Amsterdam streetwear brand goes on sale Friday, October 30, and the piece it shows is a single one: a varsity jacket built on Patta's own.

BEAMS says it started from Patta's signature varsity jacket. This one has a heavy wool-polyester body with cowhide sleeves, and every graphic on it, front and back, is an embroidered patch, mixing Patta's artwork with BEAMS's. BEAMS hasn't given a price or said which stores carry it; its post tags BEAMS's men's casual account alongside Patta.

What's on it

BEAMS's photos show what the patches say. The body is rust orange with dark brown leather sleeves and black-and-white striped rib trims. On the front are a cartoon panther with a P on its sweater, a big black B with "Beams" in script at its top, "Since 76" and a pair of dice with "Good Luck", and a Patta script sits on one sleeve. The back is the anniversary: "Beams Team" in script over a car marked "50 Years", a horseshoe and a heart, "On the move, move on", and "20 26" split around "Harajuku Shibuya".

It isn't the first letterman of BEAMS's anniversary year: Polo Ralph Lauren's B-WING collection led with one at ¥165,000 on October 2, and the anniversary run has carried on since, with the Levi's and LOOPWHEELER trucker on October 17. Patta is a different kind of partner from those two, a streetwear label whose varsity jacket is part of its own look, and it's having a busy month, with its Carhartt WIP capsule out in North America on October 23. Putting "Harajuku Shibuya" and "Since 76" on Patta's jacket tells BEAMS's story in Patta's format. With no price and no store list yet, how many there are and where they'll sell is still open.
