Gustaf Westman's Disney tour has a new first stop. When the Stockholm designer announced Disney x Gustaf Westman on October 12, the collection was to be unveiled at a free pop-up in Paris from October 30 to November 1, according to Wallpaper* and Livingetc, before Tokyo and New York. Westman's own site now lists Paris for December, at 10 Rue de Saintonge in the Marais, and the boxes in his October 29 post read December 4 to 6. That makes Tokyo first, from November 6 to 8, then New York from November 13 to 15, with the online launch on gustafwestman.com on November 15 at 18:00 CET, noon in New York, before Paris opens at all. Westman hasn't said why it moved.

The collection is 35 pieces, by Wallpaper*'s count, built on Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and Pluto: furniture, ceramics, glassware, apparel and accessories, from gifts to made-to-order furniture. His site lists, among others, a Mickey Tumbler, Mickey and Minnie Cups, a Mickey Sofa and a Donald Shelf as available on November 15, and a Goofy Vase, Donald's Hat Cup, a Donald Candelabra, a Mickey Jewelry Box, a Mickey Clock and a Mickey Mirror as coming soon. His site shows no prices yet; at the announcement Wallpaper* gave €110 for the tumbler, €68 for the cup and saucer and €9,250 for the sofa.

Tokyo first, at BEAMS

Westman announced the tour itself on October 29 with a post of a pink truck printed with Mickey's ears and TOKYO NYC PARIS, a grey tour T-shirt, badges and boxes for the pieces. In Tokyo it's at BEAMS RECORDS / bPr BEAMS in Harajuku, and BEAMS now calls it the collection's global debut. It works as a showroom as much as a shop: BEAMS takes orders over the three days, one of each item per person, first come first served, and the pieces arrive in December for pick-up at the store; because they're fragile, only the furniture is shipped. BEAMS' online shop is due to open reservations on November 15 at 11am Japan time, and some pieces won't be sold in Japan at all.

New York follows at 40 Renwick Street from November 13 to 15. Pieces have been coming out one at a time on his Instagram since the announcement: the Mickey cups, the sofa, the Donald Shelf, made in Dalsjöfors a few minutes from where he grew up, he wrote, and on Sunday a chrome mirror in the shape of Mickey's head.

The fit is closer than it sounds. Westman, an architect turned designer who set up his Stockholm studio in 2020, made his name on glossy, swollen shapes in bright colours, and has worked with IKEA and Nike, so his house style was already most of the way to a cartoon. A Disney licence usually means merchandise; this one sells the way his own drops do, as a tour of pop-ups, which is also why a moved date matters: Paris was meant to be the unveiling, and now it's the last stop, after the collection is already online.
