UNDERCOVER has made a uniform for a furniture workshop. Its capsule with Studio Valentin Loellmann goes on sale on Wednesday, October 28, at undercoverism.com and UNDERCOVER stores, the label announced on Instagram on October 26, in nine posts of campaign photos shot at the studio itself.

Studio Valentin Loellmann is based in Maastricht, in the Netherlands, and is built around the workshop where Valentin Loellmann, a German artist and designer, makes his furniture and interiors. UNDERCOVER's post says every piece the studio produces is one of a kind and made entirely in that workshop, with assistants who join him project by project.

Built from the studio's working day

The brief was clothes for the people in that room. In UNDERCOVER's words, the collaboration "introduces a workwear uniform designed for the artisans working in the studio", and the label says it worked it out over a series of meetings with Loellmann, going through the studio's working conditions, how the artisans move, what they need the clothes to do, and the fabrics and design. The campaign photos show what came out of it: zip jackets and bombers, sweatshirts and hoodies, and wide trousers with quilted panels over the knees, in navy, grey, green, plum and washed brown.

The models are the studio, not a casting agency. UNDERCOVER's posts credit Loellmann himself and members of his metal, wood and ceramic workshops, among them a welder and the person who does the studio's architectural drawings and gardening, each photographed at their own station in the uniform: welding, grinding, sanding. Styling and visual direction are by Tsuyoshi Nimura, and the photographs are by Jonas Loellmann, Valentin's brother.

Our read

UNDERCOVER's own site currently leads with collaborations like Cindy Sherman × UNDERCOVER, and Jun Takahashi's runway, Spring 2027's wings and tulle included, runs on fantasy. This one goes the other way: a working uniform for a specific group of craftspeople, sold to everyone else. That gives the clothes a better story than most workwear capsules, which borrow the look of a trade without anyone in it; here the people in the photos actually wear them on the job. What UNDERCOVER hasn't said yet is the part buyers need: the piece list, the prices and how many are made. Its announcement names only the date and where to buy, so expect those details when undercoverism.com puts the capsule up on Wednesday.
