Brain Dead has made a T-shirt with PC Music for POP CRYPT, the label's Halloween night, and it comes two ways. Brain Dead's post on October 29 says the black version is sold only at the POP CRYPT shows in New York, Los Angeles and London, and the white one goes on sale at all Brain Dead retail stores from Friday, October 30. Neither Brain Dead nor PC Music has posted a price.
The front carries PC Music's name in dripping letters over a crest shaped like a cube, the same art as the shows' posters, which Brain Dead's post credits to the artist g.o.m.z.e. On the black tee the back lists the three cities and their lineups. The post tags A. G. Cook, PC Music's founder.
The shows
This year's POP CRYPT is called CRYPT CUBE, and Brain Dead co-presents it. The posters in Brain Dead's post put New York at Knockdown Center on October 29, with A. G. Cook, Sophia Stel, Hudson Mohawke and umru at the top of the bill; Los Angeles at 1720 on October 30, with a Dorian Electra DJ set, POBBLES, Hyd, Astra King, Count Baldor and gecki on the bill; and London at Colour Factory on October 31, with Sophia Stel, Babymorocco, GFOTY, Iglooghost and GRRL, followed by an after-party there. The Line of Best Fit reported that it's the first time the event has run in three cities, and that the name nods to PC Music's Pop Cube night in 2015.
PC Music timed a record to it as well. Pop Crypt: Chronicles came out on Bandcamp on October 29, eleven remixes and covers, mostly of and by artists on this year's bills, from a gecki children's-choir cover of A. G. Cook's "No Yeah" to Dorian Electra remixing Cook's take on "Crimson and Clover". PC Music says all proceeds from Bandcamp and CD sales go to Mermaids, the UK charity, and the CDs are sold at the shows.
The read
Splitting the tee by colour is the smart part: the black one stays a souvenir of having been there, and the white one lets the rest of Brain Dead's customers in. It fits a month where Brain Dead has put its name on events as much as clothes, with its CyberCon weekend in Los Angeles in November. What isn't clear yet is whether the white tee goes up on Brain Dead's website as well as in its stores, which is all the post promises.
