The British house Thomas Burberry started with a store in Basingstoke in 1856. He introduced gabardine in 1879, the trench coat came out of the First World War, and the Burberry check, in use since at least the 1920s, began as a trench coat lining. Burberry is listed on the London Stock Exchange, and Daniel Lee was named chief creative officer in 2022.
